Principal Duties and Responsibilities May Include:
Organize documents and coordinate document productions. Retrieve, organize and index documents. Conduct the bates-stamping, redaction, duplication and indexing of documents. Maintain organization of client files.
Conduct various document searches and factual research. Create and maintain internal case databases. Run searches on internal and external document databases and systems. Perform legal research,both manual and computer assisted, and compile applicable data from a variety of reference sources.
Prepare witness and matter materials for case preparation. Organize interview memos, witness statements and other relevant documents for attorney review and case preparation.
Prepare for and attend depositions. Under attorney supervision, gather and prepare documents relevant to the deponent. Organize exhibits. Attend depositions and handle exhibits during the deposition process.Summarize deposition transcripts and enter into litigation database, if applicable.
Court filings. Work with attorneys in the preparation and filing of court documents.
Prepare for and attend trials. Organize exhibits, files and all other supporting documents. Coordinate trial set-up and logistics. Assist attorneys in the courtroom by taking notes, handling exhibits, and marking documents referred to by counsel. Assist in the preparation of witness testimony.
Administrative Duties. Responsible for entering applicable billable time into billing software and assisting attorneys with client billing process.
Required knowledge and skills:
Graduation from an American Bar Association approved Legal Assistant/Paralegal Program or Certification through NALA, NFPA or NALS
Above-average proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel (entering data, creating formulas and charts)
Strong proofreading, spelling and grammar skills
Strong communication skills
Background in Trial Director, Summation, eDiscovery Point or similar programs
Prior complex litigation experience, along with transactional areas of banking and finance, real estate and corporate
Excellent attention to detail
Knowledge of document review and document management, as well as assisting attorneys in motion and trial preparation
Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, identify colors, hear with aid, see,write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry under 15 lbs.,perceive depth, operate office equipment such as copiers, scanners, etc.
Conditions include working inside, working around machines with moving parts and moving objects, working closely with others, working alone,and working protracted and irregular hours, when required
